Anonymous asked: I really need help. It seems that I can't let go of my dark past. It's if a had a lot of anger. I'm angry at everything. I don't want to have't that way, I really want to get rid of my anger once and for all. What can i do to let go of the past? Please help me.
Thanks for reaching out, Beautiful Soul! By acknowledging the presence of your anger and the attachment to the past, you’re already on your way to coming to terms with it.
The first thing to understand is that anger is not you. You were not born carrying this anger, but it has been accumulated over time - much like the foods you like and dislike. To some, broccoli may be their favorite food, but others can barely stand the mere thought of it. I’m sure this even brings up your own feelings about broccoli - good or bad.
Anger is much the same - your mind has learned over time what things to become angry with. At the same time, I’m sure there are things you see other people becoming angry with that don’t even phase you. Anger is not something that you can get rid of all together; rather, strive to bring awareness to all the things that lead to anger within you. Once you become aware of all the triggers that lead to anger, you’ll begin seeing them for what they are - mere stories. Anger is a great amount of energy expressing itself, with awareness you can learn to channel this energy in positive directions as well.
This type of deep awareness, can only be found by living in the present moment. What has happened in the past cannot be changed and it doesn’t equal who you are. All you have is the here and now. Meditation is a practice of calming the mind to clear space for the present moment. With meditation you can foster great awareness, which will allow you to let go of the past and accept anger for what it is. Expand your knowledge on meditation and try starting a simple practice (5-10 minutes per day). If you’re looking for a great book to get started with, I would recommend “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle.
Namaste Friend! Keep me posted on your journey!
